I chose this class because it sounded interesting when I was reading the course description. The idea of analyzing different films and how they use food to convey meaning. I already like to analyze and critique movies in my free time with my friends, so doing this for a class where I can learn technical terms and more ways to analyze what a film is trying to convey sounds interesting. The idea of getting to watch movies for class sounded fun to me and I also want to see movies from other countries and cultures. I also never thought about food as a way of conveying meaning in a movie and I want to see what that looks like.
In this course I want to accomplish a deeper understanding of the role food plays in movies. I want to learn how the food shows the mood, motives, and background of different characters. I want to learn how that works in other genres, like horror, romance, and comedies as well. I want to learn technical terms that are used to describe and analyze movies. I also want to learn about different cultures and different food from around the world, and the meaning that all these different foods convey when used in movies.
My favorite film is Coraline, it is not a food film, and it is animated with stop motion. This has been my favorite film since I was 8 years old. I like this film because it was done in stop motion, which takes a long time, it also has an interesting storyline and great visuals. Even though it is not a food film, one of the best parts of the movie is seeing the food that is in the other world because it is something that adds to the wonder of the movie itself. I like this movie because it captured my attention as a child and told a great story. It still holds a special place in my heart.
